A true hidden gem!

We stayed at Short House over Christmas 2020 and what a great choice we made, it was like home from home with the added luxury of picturesque surroundings, a beautiful beach just a stones throw from your cottage door! We required disabled access as my partner is tetraplegic, we managed very well with in and out access (small lip on front entrance but easily maneuvered over this). There is direct flat access to the master bedroom from the side of the cottage with amazing sea views from both bedrooms. Andrew was extremely thoughtful to our needs and ensured we had everything we could need to ensure our stay was as leisurely as possible. 10 minute drive into Bridport for all supermarkets etc, wine merchants. Our dog loved the free run of Andrews horse field on our morning walks to the beach (running away from me on the beach to find her back in the field rolling in horse poop ha). Cleanliness 10/10. Excellent range of pots, pans and utensils. Glassware and tableware good supply, appear as new. Washing machine and dryer, heated towel rails, hive thermostat, towels of plenty! Andrew has thought of everything. We hope to book again in the summer time but even for Christmas the weather was simply beautiful, much more to do than I have mentioned but our time was to relax and enjoy some quality time in pure isolation it was truly amazing and we would highly recommend Andrew and his amazing cottage, as well as the helpful groundsman who assisted in accommodating our needs, to all. Thank you again for an amazing experience.

Tennis court, horses and sea swimming!

The most amazing location if you love sea views. Plus, tennis court, horses and sea swimming! Lovely local pub and we’re coming back to try the restaurant as we didn’t book in time! For us, it was perfect

Hi Emma, Thank you for such a lovely review of Short House; much appreciated. Look forward to to seeing you here again. Best regards, Andrew.

Beautifully situated with everything you need for a relaxed break

We needed a relaxed break away from the hustle and bustle of the daily grind... and that is exactly what we experienced. Very pleased we discovered this beautiful place but are tempted to keep it to ourselves as it proved to be ideal for us. Andrew was extremely welcoming and gave us lots of ideas of local things to do. The cottage is clean (Lorraine does a fabulous job) and cosy, but large enough to cater for our grown up family and two dogs with everything we could possibly need. The fact that it is so close to the beach is a real bonus! Exceptional walks surround you, so you can drink in the clean sea air or visit the Manor House (nearest pub) if you fancy a drink in front of a roaring fire. We walked along the coast to Abbotsbury, which the dogs enjoyed immensely! We all enjoyed the Old School House tea rooms at the end of our longish walk (which are obviously used to catering for muddy dogs and boots). We look forward to exploring the area again in the near future but hope to stay a little longer next time.

This place is an absolute gem, peaceful, secluded, views all round, to the sea and along the coast. My parents, one of whom has limited mobility, stayed here and they can’t wait to come back. Although there are no grab rails etc, having a bedroom and bathroom and living space on one level with enough space to manoeuvre in a wheel chair meant they could be comfortable here. They were greeted with a warm welcome from Andrew who took time to explain where things were and how they worked. The house is very clean, tastefully done, very well appointed, with plenty of crockery/cutlery, all the basics (which isn’t always the case) and much more than just the basics making it a more homely, comfortable stay. A fab spot to retreat from the world on the terrace or as a base to walk and explore the local area. Highly recommend and will definitely book again. Thank you!

A wonderful, restful and beautiful trip

Short House is an absolute gem. The pictures do not do it justice. The house has fab amenities and is very spacious. We stayed with our 4mo son and had some amazing walks right from the house. Particularly to Abbotsbury along the sea and back via the ridgeway really stands out with a stop for lunch at the tropical gardens which was another stand out stop - the gardens are definitely worth a visit. A wonderful, restful and beautiful trip.

Two excellent restaurants within walking distance.

Short House is a wonderful find. The position is perfect with views of the sea towards Lyme Regis. The house is very well equipped, warm and comfortable and only a five minute walk to Chesil Beach. There are two excellent restaurants within walking distance. Andrew made us very welcome. We are already discussing when we might be able to make another visit. John and Barbara

The house at the end of the World.

The house at the end of the World. A simply stunning location to 'step off the world' for 72 hours. Beautifully appointed &; fully equipped, cosy, private bolthole to escape the world; while enjoying excellent connectivity should you need it. Brilliant kitchen & living area, two fantastic bedrooms, two great bathrooms and that's before you get to the greatest 'back garden' in the world...400 yards downhill to the glorious miles of Chesil Beach. Add to that Lyme Regis, Abbotsbury, Bridport, West Bay & Charmouth, all within a 30 minute drive; there is no better antidote to the pressures of a daily commute. In fact such are the restorative powers of the Short House that I may champion it receiving recognised status as a medically endorsed stress relief. Andrew - thanks for being such a wonderful host; we will be back 'at the end of the world' as soon as humanly possible.

Another wonderful week in Short House. We both arrived needing rest and recuperation and found them in ample supply. The weather was perfect once more, the views as blissful as ever, the house a delight, and the welcome from Andrew warm. This is my heart’s ease place, food for my soul. The view from the terrace is unsurpassable. I visit it in my imagination whenever I need solace. We will be back again next year. Thank you for everything.

5 Stars

5 stars! Thank you Andrew for your hospitality. Such an amazing location and home! The coastal walks, games of tennis and shopping in Bridport made for a relaxing weekend away from work. Hope to be back again soon. Best wishes The Close Family.”

Escape the World

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Short House with a couple of friends and our little dog Hero. It was the perfect setting to escape the World and was totally relaxing. The setting is incredible and we enjoyed walks on the beach and I don't think we've been anywhere where we've seen so many stars at night. There is also a great DVD collection! Would thoroughly recommend staying here at any time of year. We'll definitely be back!
